Man o man..... What's the thoughts on the whole section of the Domain with the cool hip bars and new living spaces? There's a whole new section there that was hopping when I drove through to check it out Sat afternoon.

Something about it lacks character in my thoughts. But it sure was busy. Is saccharine the new ATX?

I don't think I've ever seen brand new mixed-use (slanted toward commercial) that I would describe as 'having character.'

"Character" is all a matter of perspective, but the fact that it's new probably has the most to do with that. Give it some time to allow for customization of buildings, more local and more practical business to infiltrate, and diversify the crowd it caters to, and I think the Domain will age well and develop local character. Not every place in Austin can have historic charm, and the Domain is a far smarter way to grow than plopping poorly planned neighborhoods onto hillsides with country roads like what is happening on the edges of town.

The "ATX" isn't allowed as far north as the Domain...thank goodness.

I'm sure the british didn't think the US had character either at one point.

My friend from england laughed how we made a big deal about buildings that are 100-200 years old. He said his local pub was 500 years old.

the same thing goes for protesting new development. Austin oaks pud is a great example. Many in the neighborhood are going to hate it no matter what it is. But 20 years from now the neighborhood will rely on it and love it. It will be cited as a centerpiece of the neighborhood

kind of how people protested the building of skyscrapers downtown, now they are part of the skyline.

People hate change..

I like the rock rose district and that I dont have to go downtown.

I've never been to Rock Rose but that will probably be our nightlife destination spot. It's much closer than DT and minus the homeless people. Win.

Geez...I had never heard of the Rock Rose area...must be too trendy for me!

How long before the ATX crowd starts calling it "RoRo"
