Hi, I'm a 27-year old, single, male, and am researching moving to Austin. I'm laid-back, really enjoy college sports, and also like warmer weather. I'm sick of snow and MA. I'd like to know how people around my age are enjoying (or not) living in Austin?

I've been looking at a few other places also...basically Raleigh, Dallas, and Nashville. I've been to Austin twice, but the last time was about 4 years ago. I really loved Austin then and always had a great time anywhere in the state of Texas, but it is one thing visiting and another living in the area.

I'm from the Northeast (Massachusetts) so if anyone from this area has any input it would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone has contemplated or considered moving to Dallas, Raleigh, or Nashville and chose Austin what made your decision?

Thanks

Hey, I'm a 26 single female to recently moved to the Austin area. I moved from Minneapolis and love it. It's much warmer (70s and 80s in February sometimes!) and the city is wonderful. Tons of things to do and new people to meet. I highly recommend living in South Austin if you move here. Good luck!

Default Left Boston

I came to Austin about a year ago from Saugus. It is really nice here, there is alot to do.. however, it is nothing like back home. People are a little different here but still a nice place.

I grew up in the DC area. Though I had moved away from there already, I later had the choice to move to Austin or Raleigh for work. Visited both and I chose Austin.
I like Raleigh, and it is quite similar to the type of college towns in VA that I had lived in. Great weather and excellent college-town vibe there.
But I think Austin is more vibrant and exciting. It's a tough choice though. A big factor for me was that I knew people in Austin but not in Raleigh (though my whole family is right up 95). So for me, Raleigh would have been welcome, familiar territory while Austin was new and exciting. Raleigh may appeal more to you if you like the Massachusetts atmosphere - Austin is a different world.

Thanks for all your responses. My decision is probably going to be between Raleigh and Austin. The advantage Raleigh has for me is that it is fairly close to the ocean and also that I have friends and family located in Georgia, Washington D.C. and through much of the east coast. Even so, I still really like Austin and think it has a great vibe that many cities can't imitate.
