Has anyone else noticed the ridiculous number of potholes on North Lamar Blvd between 45th St and Koenig Ln? The right lane on the northbound side of the road is so bad, that I can't even drive in it without worrying about damaging my car. Does anyone know what has caused the road to get this bad and whether the city is going to do anything to fix the road?

Been like that forever, and the area between 38th and 45th is just as bad. I'd suggest you call 311. They're there to answer these types of questions and address problems.

Huh, I drive that stretch of N Lamar every day and I haven't noticed anything! (now westbound 24th between Lamar and Mopac? Yes, I complain about that stretch daily.)

Yes, that stretch is awful. I've called 311 with no indication it's going to get fixed. I suggest a Twitter storm to get the city manager and mayor's attention. Also contact your councilman/councilwoman.

The deplorable condition of Austin streets is just another of the many aspects of life here that have deteriorated greatly.

A big part of the problem is that people want effective city services, but are unwilling to pay for them. Without a budget for street repair, potholes won't get fixed.

Notice also that street medians are going unmowed for long periods, and when they're mowed, the contractors chop up the trash and don't pick it up.

Austin is becoming more and more like the blighted cities of the northeast. Yet people brag about how "cool" it is.

That stretch has to be one of the worst paved roads I've ever driven on, as in worse than the developing countries I've been to. I imagine they're hesitant to do any work because the grading and road conditions are such that they'd have to tear out the entire road, not just plop down a new layer of asphalt like is usually done. I'm sure the expense factors in, but the bigger issues are the logistics of shutting down lanes on one of the busiest arterials in the city.

i think there is plenty of money, prioritization is just bad.

Our neighborhood street (yaupon) gets repaved maybe every 3-5 years for no reason. We wonder how that is when other areas are in much worse shape.

Our cul de sac has been repaved twice in the 15 years I have lived there and it was virtually brand new in 2000

Agree with OP, I usually change to the left lane around that part of N Lamar. Same goes with Burnet around the N Loop'ish, I go a bit under the speed limit since I feel like I'm going through a tollbooth with how relatively narrow it becomes.
