Got a friend that has worked for (and maybe still does?) the swift water rescue unit for AFD and he is sort of an adrenaline junkie, I think. Also, recovery is about 1/100th as dangerous as rescue....and it almost always seems to be recovery.

Yes, people choose to be a first-responder. That doesn't give others a license to drive around a barricade and try to cross a low water crossing or swim in water that's too powerful for them.
