Sandeez in Lakeway is one of my faves. Also like 5 Guys and Phil's Ice House. Hubby and I used to frequent Dan's 50 pounds ago - since we maybe eat burgers once or twice a year, we haven't been in quite awhile especially since there are so many new good places to try.

I ate at the Moonie's near Gracy Farms, not bad.

Mighty Fine? More like Mighty DRY in that case!

Has anyone in here ever had Gourdough's? I think they'd be good to try once; Their burgers seem more like "shock value" burgers (i.e. A heart attack in a bun). However, I've been wanting to go with the wife and we could split a burger and make a meal out of it. It might be good to try...

The original Moonie's location in Cedar Park has been the most consistent, IMO. Each location is a bit different.

I've liked Mighty in the past; but this last burger was a disappointment. Fortunately, I had the 'burger in a bowl' option and just busted up the burger into the "salad". Not too many things sadder than an overcooked burger

If you think your Mighty Fine burger is too dry, just tell them. They are fanatical about quality.

I think they cook their burgers on the well-done side of medium well, because they think that is optimal. And I do like them that way. But I've noticed people ordering their burger as "Made To Order" (or something that they say when ordering) so that basically they will cook your patty individually (takes a little longer) if you want it less done. It's not mentioned on the menu, but so much of what Mighty Fine can do is off-menu -- the menu is ridiculously short.

Had it a few times. Your assessment is correct, it's kind of a shock value thing -- great for visitors. It's good stuff, worth trying, but you can't really categorize it as a burger IMO. After a couple of times, it was just too much for us. Having a big greasy cheeseburger is indulgence enough, but add a fried doughnut bun with a whole dessert's amount of sugar, and it's just crazy calorie/carb overload.

Now we just go for drinks and dessert

If it had been horrible, I certainly would have brought it to their attention. Funny how skipping the fries and drinking unsweetened tea can take the edge off an overcooked burger.

Seems when we arrived in '08, we saw signs in more than one burger place making reference to the "required" cooking temp for burgers(or had the heat already gotten to me?). It was challenging to get a place to not cook the life out of the patty. I'm normally good with what most folks call 'medium'; but if it's brown all the way through, that's one DEAD patty

Just to spice things up a bit...a couple of places offered a burger with a fried egg on top. The ones I've had(Moonie's and Smashburger) were surprisingly tasty!!! Easily a meal when split with DW. (Moonie's went so far as to mix 50/50 pork and beef for the patty...French toasted the bun!!!...added bacon and sprinkled it with powdered sugar!!!!! Talk about Breakfast For Dinner!!!!! Ah, the good old days when carbs were under the hood of the automobile!!! )

Sounds like the "Ron Burgundy" at Gordough's : Ron Burgundy - Menu - Gourdough's Public House - Austin

I just had a thought about something that could outdo even the decadence of a Gordough's Doughnut burger:

A Cinnabon Burger.

(You're welcome, Cinnabon Inc.)

Crown & Anchor
Casino el Camino used to be the bomb but I haven't been in a while and I've heard they've gone downhill
