Renter in Cedar Park since January of this year. Work at intersection of 35 & 45. Wife works downtown at UT.

Of all the areas we enjoy, Bee Cave is our favorite by far. Looks like typical commute from corner of 620/71 leaving around 6:30 am to UT or RR is 30-40 mins each way.

Seems like we aren't fighting too much traffic leaving that early. Anyone do the commute as well?

Bee Caves to RR (using 620/45) round trip...each day. (i'd shoot myself)

Maybe 40 min. today (leaving at 6:30). But how about in two weeks when school is in session? Anybody from Lakeway (or even Steiner) make that commute during the school year?

I will do it 3 days a week, work from home twice. Seems the Bee Caves to UT wont be as bad.

Going to 45/35 will suck. Even if you leave at 6:30 you will get stuck in the nightmares that are the 620/2222 and 620/Anderson Mill intersections. It's not bad now, but once school starts, it's ridiculous.

What times will you be making the return trips?

I am flexible on return trips. I basically will head out whenever the best time/window presents itself. If that means 3:30pm-3:45pm start to head back, I can make that work.

That sounds absolutely awful lol but live where makes you happy! If you can put up with the commute go for it! We live in Leander and I have commute to bee caves on a handful of days.. Although I leave superrrr early in the AM. The traffic in that area- 620 is mind numbing during the school year. If you live early enough you may be alright.

As the last person said, the 620 corridor is one of the worst in Austin, and there are no real plans to improve it anytime soon. The morning may not make you too nuts if you leave early enough, but coming home might. Leaving anywhere between 3:00 - 6:00 will be bad. At 3:00 and times near it, you are fighting school traffic. After that, it's rush hour. Also, the timing of the lights at some of the intersections change to accommodate anticipated rush hour traffic, so I have sat for over 30 minutes on 620 at the 2222 intersection before at 4:00 in the afternoon.

Bee Cave is a great area, but I don't think I could do that commute.

But I'm sure 620 traffic will improve once they open up the large low income - city subsidized apartment complex (near 620 & Anderson Mill next to the driving range). Dumping a few hundred more cars onto 620.

But I see they are opening up a brand new Subway Station right outside the front gate.....oh wait, it's a Subway Sandwich shop, rats!

Thanks CofA !!! Add to the gridlock, and do NOTHING to even begin to fix the problem.

There ARE other ways to north Austin...the commute is not great, but at the right time of day, it is fine. I have noticed on here that if someone posts that their commute is longer than 15 minutes, IT"S THE WORST COMMUTE in the WORLD!!
lol Commutes are a reality, peeps!

I can completely agree that commute isn't everything.. I drive to bee caves too- but at the right times. Driving on 620 is a complete crap shoot.. And at that time.. Forget about it. The problem with Austin and traffic is this:

1) there is typically only 1 or maybe 2 ways to get to a location because the design of the roads/grid is pathetic. There are very few side streets/ and roads that will allow alternate routes.. And in this case that's true because he will HAVE to take 620 to 45.

2) as said above this particular start to finish is 1 route.. Which happens to be on One if not the worst roads in Austin for traffic especially when school is in session.

3) this route with no traffic is about 40 minutes naturally.

It sounds pretty miserable to me. But I would first live where you really wanna live.. If that's bee caves for you then go for it. I would rather put up with a drive them live somewhere I'm not thrilled with. That's what we do.. We love Leander/cedar park and while our commutes are not bad to us if they had to be longer we wouldn't mind because we don't wanna live anywhere else but this area. So it sounds like your into bee caves- and you can put up with the commute for 3 days.. Go for it. But beware that traffic on 620 at that time (or any time really) is a nightmare.
