My husband drives a truck and uses the toll rd., but not everyday, as mostly he ends up going wherever the toll rd. doesn't. But if he has to go to Dallas or Houston, he'll travel them more.

What? Really?
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that if you are living in Riata and traveling downtown, you probably would take MoPac (Loop 1) anyway, w/really no need to every experience I35.
Just curious...what kind of sports do you and your wife participate in?

Can anyone comment on how the cost of living differs between detroit/michigan to austin? I'm thinking about making the move to austin, and I've heard it has a low cost of living. But most of the posts I've seen on here are from people who made the move from california, new york, etc., which have a much higher cost of living than michigan.

The word for I-35 is "bottlenecking." Especially around Airport Blvd. and then when the upper and lower decks meet. It can get frustrating for about 5-10 minutes, but after that you usually start picking up speed.

Yeah, I was wondering about that one, myself. I've heard it regularly over the last 40 years or so, from UT up to the Capitol. And have been known to use it, too, when appropriate.

Three years ago, it was much cheaper in Austin, but that might have changed as the economies have headed in opposite directions.

I would say its about the same. Per groceries and gas, prob a bit cheaper. Per Housing, prob a tad higher. per renting apartments, prob about the same, or a bit cheaper. I would get out of Detroit as soon as possible. I'm leaving Chicago, which is tanking economically, and I know that Detroit is getting in Flint territory now. As I tell everyone, will the last person that leaves Detroit please turn off the lights?

i am half jordanian and have lived in austin a year off of south congress close to downtown. i lived in houston for 25 years and i can tell you austin has a low arab population and it is obvious when visiting places around town. most arabs that live here go to UT. this town is prodominately white and the mexicans in the town act really ghetto or are poor. this town is really behind in terms of diversity, and i think it has to do with the university. most working professionals in the area are UT alumni or texas a&m...
