I am about ready to sell my car privately and could use some input on what forms I need so that everything is legitimate.

The car title is from New Mexico since that is where I bought it. The car is registered here is Texas.

Does anyone know what all the forms I need to complete the sale?

Thanks

Do whatever forms you're told, AND a Limited Power of Attorney. That will allow the buyer to sign FOR you on anything having to do with the car. So, if he gets to DMV and they say "the owner needs to fill out/sign THIS form, also", he can legally do it - it'll save both of you a LOT of hassle. That's from personal experience, FYI.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how is it registered in Texas but titled in New Mexico?

You do not need to title a car in Texas to register it here.

When we moved from NY, we registered our cars here but kept the NY paper titles. I think it is something like 40 dollars less per car.

I moved to Texas while the car was still being financed in New Mexico. When I registered my car it wasn't required to trasnfer title.

I am selling my car tomorrow and want to make sure it goes by smoothly.

I am not sure what forms I need.... thats why I am asking?
