I actually saw a business somewhere up north in our area (cannot for the life of me remember what/where it was!) that had the 737 area code on their sign, and I've received several calls from numbers with it.

When I got a new cell # I got a 737 number. I just hooked up ooma though and had a choice of around 1000 512 numbers. Lots of 512-666 numbers were available.

Some of my friends were surprised that I wouldnt want a 512 number (implying that there was something special about it).

I've always kind of liked it, with Austin being a tech city the 512 area code (as a power of 2) seemed very appropriate. Too bad they couldn't keep up the tech link with the new area code, but I imagine 737 is appealing to certain cultures. Wonder if Vegas has lobbied the FCC for 777 as their expansion area code?

Also 8 cubed...does that refer to the number of eight-balls in Austin?
737 should be closer to a big airport or Boeing facility

We buy a lot of ipads, phones, etc for our employees at work.

So we are involved in adding 4g service to them, cancelling, etc.

My verizon rep told me that most of the new ipads and cell phones from them are going to be 737 area code.

I just bought a VOIP line for my home and got a 512 number.

ATT is the legacy carrier, they have the biggest stock of 512 numbers, they will be the last ones to run out.

You can always tell when a business has been in Austin for a long time because it'll advertise its phone number without listing an area code. If 737 becomes more common, this will be a thing of the past.

212 is coveted in NYC.

I don't think of myself as shallow, or resistant to change, but I'd no sooner carry a 737 phone number than I would call Town Lake the new name.
