Sorry cBach, I've been rewarded with mosquitoes in February. WTF. I hope it's not like 2011...that was absolutely disastrous and many homes in my neighborhood lost their heritage oaks. Sorry, City of Round Rock...my trees are going to live and I'm going to water them.

I agree that 2011 sucked, fire almost destroyed my home. But there were no mosquitoes, if there was a silver lining.

For some reason mosquitoes seem to like to dine on women moreso than men.

You all do realize that conditions in winter have absolutely no bearing on what occurs in summer, right?

Plus, 2011 being very hot/dry was simply just divine punishment of Texas (read: a sequence of bizarre coincidences); a summer like that won't occur again in several lifetimes.

Nice to have an expert chime in and set us all straight!

This video shows that March is shaping out to be cooler in the East and warmer in the West. For almost all of winter, there was a trough in the West, bringing rain to California and a ridge in the East, bringing warmer weather. Now, the pattern will shift.

This will mean that California will now have some time to dry out a bit and maybe turn off the spillways to its dams so it can check on the damage. In the meantime, the Midwest and Northeast will be seeing below freezing weather and possible snow.

The trough does not look to be so deep that it will dig into Texas except for occasional cold fronts. But do not expect upper 80's and 90 degree weather in March like we had in February.

This could be a year of extreme weather, meaning more severe tornadic storms.

This is true.

After living here for several decades I can assure you that the summer will be hot, we will have a drought every few years and we will have floods every few years. And it will not change in our lifetime.

Not sure why that would be. The US has had over 90 very strong (F3+) tornadoes in only three years (1957, 1965 and 1974). Recently it's been less than 30 per year.
