Does anybody know when the county offices will do the appraisals and generate invoices for the year 2008 ?
Our's is a new home built in 2007 and the property value still shows the land value. I am curious to know what would be my assessed value and property tax for the year 2008.

Thanks in advance.

The appraisals usually come out in the fall of the preceding year. You should get it in the mail.

If there are similar homes in the neighborhood that were built prior to 2007, you might be able to get a general idea what your 2007 appraisal with your home on the lot would be by looking at their 2007 appraisals.

I believe the appraised values for the new year are announced around mid April.

Well, you have until April 1 to get your homestead exemption application in. I spoke in error earlier - it's the BILL you get in the fall, not the appraisal itself, which does, indeed, come earlier.

I think they come in May. If you're in Travis county, go to the TCAD website and you can see what properties on your street on in your neighborhood appraised for last year. When you do the search, just type in a street name without the address and it will bring all the properties up on that street. You should at least be able to extrapolate the amounts based on the tax rates and your square footage.

There was a thread a while back that said since TX is a non-disclosure state the appraisal district will sometimes over appraise your new construction on purpose since you then have to submit your purchase price to get the appraisal reduced...unless of course you want to pay the higher taxes.

So do you have to submit your purchase price in order to get a cheaper appraisal? In my case, they're showing the land to be a lot higher than what we paid.....a little over $100k to be exact...And it's not only happening to us, but also to ALL our neighbors.

I got my statement couple of weeks back. The appraised value is 26K more than the price we paid back in Oct '07. Thats almost 9% appreciation.
Let me see if I can get it reduced. I'll update this thread with any progress.

I went down yesterday with my HUD statement (we just bought this house 2 months ago). They lowered it to $2000 below what we paid for it!!!! When I went in there was NOBODY in line. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. They said that by the end of the month it will be very busy in there, you know all those procrastinators

I went today and they lowered it to the price I paid for it. How did you get them to lower below what you paid for it?
