It's actually Butt not Butts. I guess HEB sounded a lot better that Butt Grocery.

In DFW, HEB means Hurst, Euless, Bedford.
I lived in Austin for a year before I realized that's not what it means here
You would think I would of figured it out because there's not many, if any, HEB's in HEB!

The original HEB was in Kerville (I think) but I know from the old photos it was called Howard E. Butt Grocery and the locals shortned it to HEB and the name stuck. Older TV commercials and promotional materials refered to the full name as well. I think the Butt family sold out some years ago and the company is just called HEB Inc. now.
Once you get around how to pronounce the names, you can move on the the roads that have multiple names, sometimes for the same stretch of road. I think US HWY 183 is the worst. From North to South starting in Leander/Cedar Park it's called Bell Ave, followed by Research, Anderson Ln., Ed Bluestein, Old Bastrop Rd.
Loop 1 (which runs only North/South) is also called Mopac, and on the north end it's also Burnet Rd.
Ben White is also HWY 290 and Hwy 71
I am sure there are others I can't think of right now.
