I want to move from NYC to Austin, tx. I am a single mom who is looking for a good school district with afterschool programs and affordable homes in a nice and safe area. I am going to be visiting in a couple of weeks and I would like to know which areas should I visit. I also want something closer to the city. please help. Thanks in advance.

Being from NYC, Westlake (exclusive neighborhood, great schools) may be "affordable" for you. What is your price range?

Eanes Independent School District (Westlake) is great, but the housing gets expensive. Round Rock also has a great school district and is much more affordable, but compared to NYC, you might get very bored very fast. It's a great place to raise children, though.

Please define "affordable" & your criteria for a definition of "a good district".

Also consider sharing what you are looking for in afterschool program. (Are you wanting the school is to provide this?)

Finally, many of the "school districts" have varying degrees of "good" schools.

Also, define "closer to the city". Round Rock? Georgetown? Hutto? Or are you talking about close to downtown? And what's close in terms of travel time, for you?

Hi Single Mom,

I am a single mom also and moved to Austin from New Jersey. I am near Cedar Park area in north Austin off of Research Blvd 183 and love it. You would probably like this area.

Katie
