You are closest to the truth. The big city & Bay Area politics out there are run by leftwingnuts.

I see where LA County is actually proposing to pay homeowners up to $80,000 each to built apartment flats on their property to house the 55,000 homeless.

That's leftwingnuttery.

The Texas Bathroom Bill is rightwingnuttery.

May the Deity save us all!

Sounds like the beginning of a zombie apocalypse.

The only way I'd ever think about support that is if mental health programs were required at these locations. Even then it would be an uphill battle and probably still a horrible idea

I'd venture to say that many, if not the majority of the homeless are not mentally ill. Rather, many (if not most) made poor choices growing up without understanding the consequences.

Nevertheless, the ones who do really need the help won't get it because of the excessive overload placed on community & state resources by the undeserving, the illegals, and the lazy. This rampant abuse of our social systems needs to stop, and mental health care addressed in a competent and caring manner.

“waiting out the bad weather so we can drive east,”

Ummmm? It's San Francisco in the summer. It's not like they had to wait for snow plows to clear the blizzard level snow. What bad weather were they waiting out, that required them to illegally park in one of the most expensive cities in the country. They could have moved 1 1/2 hours east and had a much cheaper, "waiting the weather out" place to stay.

Being a native Texan that lived in Ca for 27 years before returning home, I can assure you that Austin's level of liberalism is no where near that of SF. It's why my husband and I chose to move here when we moved back.

We are on the more conservative side, which stood out in California. Fits in well with this area, since we are closer to the middle on the political spectrum.

Austin actually felt LESS liberal to me than Houston when I was there last week, which was pretty surprising.

Austin= Orange County

Houston= Oakland/Sacramento

Houston is a big city ... parts (mostly near the core) tend more liberal ... in contrast with the wealthy or more distant areas which tend more conservative. I think that's true in many cities of the western US.

That's also why in the cities that are the cores of Texas' big metro areas (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin), Obama won in 2012. Despite that, votes in the rural areas helped let the R's carry the state as a whole.

Yeah, that is true. Sometimes I wonder if that will come back to bite the people who did the gerrymandering ... until I remember that, by that time, they will have moved to the Colorado Rockies to enjoy the fruits of their labors.
