Social Service/Non profit Jobs in Austin?
I was wondering, since Austin is known for its education and center of state politics and liberal views, are there many non profit jobs, social service jobs, social work jobs??

My best friend is a manager at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, so if you're interested in something like that, they're always looking for good people. Just let me know and I can put you in touch.

A major influence on a city's provisions for the type of employment you're asking about is the state it's in. Texas is near the bottom of the list when it comes to funding non-profits. You'd find much better-paying, better-quality jobs in the northeast. But then again, if you like the Carolinas (judging by your name) and Texas, I don't imagine you'd like the weather or culture of the northeast.
Sorry I'm not more useful specifically about those jobs in Austin. I'm just generalizing.

deeptrance, i live in the Northeast and have since the 1980s.
I hope the federal or state governments arent funding nonprofits--i love and have worked for private nonprofits my entire career--not state or federal and love it thanks.

What's the story behind your name? And what part of the NE do you live in (if I'm not being too nosy)?

AHA! I see... what TYPE of non-profit would you like? We've got lots of environmental work, some social services.... wish I knew more and could be useful to you! But you're definitely going to find more of the privately-funded types of non-profits than the gov't type jobs I thought you were referring to. Sorry I didn't think outside the box on that question.

OK, you've got a couple links in my above post that should give you more than any individual can provide.
And stop fearing how you'll be received here. This is by far the most tolerant part of the USA I've ever been in! You'll fit in great here, no matter what mix of races exist in your family and what you political views are. I really think you would be an asset to this community and I look forward to hearing about your surprisingly pleasant experience of your new hometown of Austin, Texas.

Just wanted to bump this thread. I just relocated to Austin and am currently in the market for employment, preferably in the non-profit sector or arts. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to private message me.
