Couple of things will change soon...A) Schools, including UT, will be back in session in earnest. Have fun in the traffic! and 2) The weather MAY(or may NOT) cool just a smidge, but the remnants of Harvey's visit may not be pretty(depending).

Yep, I think I would skip this weekend unless the schedule just didn't allow any flexibility

Traffic's part of the deal (on a more everyday basis) right? So that part is probably good to experience.

Good in the sense that you will get a realistic picture of the school-season mess. Not so good in that you will get a good look at the school-session mess.

Of course, it's possible to avoid much of the school traffic by having a nice breakfast before you venture out after 0900...then watch out if you are on the road between 3 and 7-ish. A lot will depend on your proximity to schools, of course.

I got what you were saying the first time. But I honestly think, that's a good thing. I would never encourage someone who was planning to move to a new area not to experience the everyday traffic. I think it's imperative to know what you're in for. That has a lot to do with where you might decide to move, the possible type of job that you take (does it allow work from home, are the hours flexible so you can commute at off hours) etc.

Well, we decided to cut an already-short trip shorter. We left this morning instead of tomorrow morning to make sure there wasn't any issue getting home.

We did enjoy the area!

Wondering how much rain and damage Georgetown and Round Rock will undergo. Praying that Texans all over the state will be safe!

One problem would be getting caught in one of our IH-35 or MoPac messes and wasting half a day sitting in traffic rather than gathering the information you seek.

If there is a specific commute you want to experience or map out, I'd certainly take a good look at the proposed route during peak travel times; but it's also possible to get stuck for two hours trying to get to the next exit on one of our lovely highways.

Won't be much wind damage (if any), just flooding in the usual spots. How much flooding is the question, as the predictions range from 6" to 15" or so by Monday.

Lost a couple of seemingly healthy trees(Yaupon?) already. I guess the combo of wind and very wet soil got to them. The trees are so lush right now...acting like parachutes

thx for update

Central part of Texas will do fine with ANY amount of rain that comes; there is enough topology here to ensure that it will all run downhill (towards Houston . . .)

Houston: NOT so fine . . .

Central and South Texas are the flash flood capital of the world. There have been several 100 year floods in the last twenty years that have cause life changing foods as close as southeast Austin on Onion Creek in 2016.
