Can anyone give me tips on finding good prices for my friends to fly London (any London airport but Gatwick best) to Austin?

Websites, travel agents etc...?

If it saves a packet I can drive to Houston or San Antonio to collect and deliver my visitors!

thanks!

It will save quite a bit if you use Houston or Dallas. Getting from there to here usually adds about 100.00 to the ticket. For one person, not such a deal when you consider parking and gas, but for a group pf several or a family, the 400.00 or more savings is significant.

We have a friend who just flew in from NYC to visit our son in Austin (and attend part of SXSW), and he evidently saved a few hundred dollars by flying in to San Antonio on Continental. (Of course, that might have had to do with the demand for flying into Austin during SXSW week, but it's worth checking.)

Generally speaking, it is usually cheaper flying into San Antonio than Austin.

That's not always true. Sometimes travelling to Europe, the direct flights from DFW or Houston cost more (because they can sell them as non-stop). Flying the very same plane with a leg from Austin or San Antonio will often be cheaper.

I'd suspect though that Austin will be more expensive than SA, as I think there is more demand here, esp. to London.

As a very frequent flyer to the UK I tend to fly with Continental changing in Houston or NY. I book direct, its no hassle and the service is good. I've never seen any savings that would persuade me to drive to SA or Houston. Anyone coming from the UK can rest easy that any failure to find that REALLY cheap fare will be offset by the super exchange rate!

If you are ever looking to swank it up a little, when we flew here for our permanent move from London, we traveled firstly to NY with Silverjet which is a first class only/budget airline (an oxymoron I know). At last an opportunity to see what those turning left at the door are paying that obscene amount of money for. Great concept, brilliant service and flying from Luton was better than expected.

You should try Kayak.com. It searches a whole bunch of travel sites to find the lowest fares. It will help you save a packet (I am assuming this means "a lot of money").
