Hi folks
I live in the metroplex. For thanksgiving, my sister in law booked a family trip to Dripping Springs which I’ve learned is just outside Austin. I’ve never heard of this place and she’s being all mysterious about it. I was going to decline going but she’s paying for the trip. Can anyone tell me what there is to do there and also in Austin? We will be there Thursday through Sunday. We need things to do for both adults and kids. Also any recommendations on restaurants would be great. TIA

It's only 30 minutes from Austin. Very easy to get to downtown. Dripping is small but growing. There is plenty of hiking, eating at small local restaurants a LOT of breweries, wineries and distilleries. Do a quick google search on what you'd liked to do. You'll most likely find it in Austin at the very least. Also, it's not far from Fredericksburg which is fun for shopping and hiking Enchanted Rock.

I think "The Southwest Metroplex" was a name coined by an advertising agency hired to promote the opening of DFW Airport in the 70s. The moniker was featured in full-page ads in the Wall Street Journal and other national papers at that time, which also showed the airport superimposed on an outline of Manhattan Island. The airport was bigger, of course :-)

But, the moniker stuck, since the City of Dallas is surrounded by so many other incorporated municipalities. So, it makes sense, since it really is a metropolitan complex.

I know what a metroplex is. This poster used "the metroplex" as though there were only one.

I'm basically being a smart ass about a Dallas poster posting in the Austin forum and using Dallas terminology.

Pedernales Falls state park is right there and fun for hiking.

Thyme & Dough is great for breakfast and lunch.

Mazamas for coffee.

Pieous for real neapolitan pizza (they also have salad and make their own pastrami which is so good).

Wow, all the responses and only 2 are worthwhile.

There is a lot of outdoor stuff to do in the area. Given that the weather is still really nice, get out and explore.

In addition to the restaurants mentioned above, Creek Road Cafe will amaze you.

Austin Zoo is a unique rescue zoo. Worth the visit for the kids.
