Hello All,

I am looking to relocate from Baltimore to Austin, TX . Myself and my son's dad ( 30 something's) and our 7 year old little boy.

Major criteria is neither of us drive . We would need to be near train station and bike friendly areas with decent elementary schools and safe environment. Also near bike - able or (even better) walkable shopping area for groceries and other needs.
We can afford up to $1600/ month for a 2 bedroom .
Any suggestions on neighborhoods or apartments complexes where we can start our search would be greatly appreciated !

Doesn’t exist. This isn’t the east coast.

Try looking at apts along the Metrorail route. Keep in mind that the train isn't anything like the subway...not even close. it stops running after commuter hours except for Fridays and Saturdays. There are buses, but they kinda suck. You don't HAVe to have a car but your life would sure be easier with one.

Austin is the opposite of what you're looking for.

The Lakeline Station has quite a few apartments within a reasonable distance...an actual grocery store isn't exactly next door until H Mart opens; but Target and HEB are darned close. I bicycle quite a bit in the area, avoiding crossing 183 however.More than likely would attend Purple Sage ES

I don't think you've asked for anything completely unavailable in Austin; but so much depends on work location.

It will be hard. Not impossible but hard. Why Austin? Might be able to get into Windsor Park and walk/bike to Mueller. Everyone will say the schools are hoorid. They aren't the best but it will get you to an area you might like. The MLK station is within biking distance.

Nope. Just as realistic and frank as always.

Lakeline area is but one example that fits the bill for them.

How do you figure the entire Austin area is the "opposite"?
