I was in Austin yesterday for training and saw that numerous trees on the hills along Capitol of Texas were decorated for Christmas. Unfortunately I did not have a camera. Anyone care to upload some? I wanted to tell the kids about this nice sight but no pics....

Here are some pics I take occasionally on my iPhone 4 camera. You can call them 'touristy' if you want, but these are part of my everyday life; i.e. taking dog to Red Bud, biking to work on the Hike & Bike, etc.

One of my favorite food trucks, Chi'Lantro:

Austin skyline from Disch Field:

my dog playing at Red Bud off-leash area:

Nice fall colors at Red Bud:

Lake Austin from Mount Bonnell with a silly Instagram filter on it

Auditorium Shores dog park:

Biking to work near 1st Street bridge:

I have more saved on my phone, I'll upload later.

Ok.. I have to admit... I'm a bit grossed out at all the dogs.... I'm all for people having their pets but does everyone have to be smothered in them in public places? Seeing all those dogs near the little beach water area really grosses me out.

This off-leash area is a comparatively tiny slice of the trail, if you don't like it it's easily avoidable-- there are 9.9 more miles of lakeside trail you can enjoy...there will be just as many dogs but they'll be leashed and not frolicking in the water This area is specifically for dogs to play- there are plenty of lovely beachy areas where there are no pets around.

FWIW, people are not allowed to swim in this lake. I find it kind of difficult to get grossed out by the dogs when people throw trash, cigarette butts, bottles, or other junk into the lake. I think humans have the potential to be much more disgusting than dogs.

If people bringing their dogs in public bothers you, you might have trouble in central Austin...they're everywhere! People bring them many places...this is a very dog-friendly city, and many restaurant patios allow well-behaved pups. I understand not everyone likes that, but it's the way it is here! Otherwise welcome to Austin (in June!)

EDIT: reading this over I think I made it sound like this lake is filled with trash...it's NOT, it's kept really clean and gorgeous! I just meant it's hard to complain about dogs gross-ness when humans have the potential to be far more disgusting

There are some excellent photos of Austin here by many of the Austin-American Statesman photographers. http://photoblog.statesman.com/

A few of my favorite - Occupy Austin at City Hall
