If you have a specific address, the City of Austin Crime Viewer is a good way to see how neighborhoods in a zip code look crime wise.

House Almanac - Austin housing trends and values is useful for lots of stats on house prices
There is also a realtor's site (Zip realty) which links into lots of stats on crime, demographics etc.

I live in 78721. We have had our house broken into once, but that really was our fault for not fixing a visibly broken window quickly enough. There are drug dealers living in and "working" on our streets, but we have not had any issues with them. I think the schools here are horrible, unless you get your kids into a charter school like we have. We are actually planning to move out of this neighborhood since our daughter will be too old for her charter school next year, and the alternative middle school here is not acceptable AT ALL. The schools really are the main issue with us.

I'd like some more comentary on 78721
I am considering moving to Austin from San Antonio, and I was looking at 78221 as a possible good investment.
Are middle class people actually moving out ? Where do you think this neighborhood is headed ?

Does anyone else have info on this area? I'm also looking at this zip and wonder if it is bad. The houses are really affordable and seem to be nice. Any other info would be appreciated.

I did a search on that zip and the houses seem way overpriced to me but my opinion means nothing really. I did run into the subdivision called SOL, (Solutions Oriented Living) in that zip code. WoW! What a concept but what a price. The house I looked at was over 300k. No joke, lookin at that we definitely are SOL if we wanted to live there. lol Sorry, couldn't help myself. Anyways, from what I've read it's being called quote - holistic - unquote. My thoughts are holistic shouldn't cost so much. But that's just me again being cynical.
