Commuting to Ft. Hood from Leander / Round Rock
I will be moving to Leander / Round Rock area at the end of May to work up at Ft. Hood - near Killeen. Is it as big of a commuting nightmare as I am thinking? I don't mind driving as long as I am not in gridlock traffic. Any feedback or advice?

Leander/Liberty Hill to Ft. Hood is about 45 min on hwy183
Now from Round Rock / G-Town you just have to mess w/ I-35, which I assume would not going to be bad going North bound in the AM.

From Round Rock you'd likely go IH35 to 195 on the north side of Georgetown, and then 195 to Killeen. If you're working "normal" hours you'd be going against the traffic for a good deal of that.
If you're not set on Leander or Round Rock, Georgetown is another possibility for commuting to Fort Hood while still being a reasonable drive from Austin.

If living in Gtown- try to live some where off hwy29. That way you take either a left to hwy183 or a right to I35 to get to work. I would prefer hwy183 route to Ft. Hood.

I'd be more likely to say either East on 29, taking Inner Loop to IH/35 jog to 195, or perhaps near Shell Road. At least, that's where most of the Fort Hood clients I've had have chosen to live for their preferred commute. But anywhere in Georgetown, it's going to be pretty easy to get to one of the routes to Fort Hood.
