Will be going out tonight at the Domain to avoid the downtown mayhem. What is a great restaurant to try at the Domain, possibly one of the newer ones, that is elegant, good service, not too loud or echo-laden so that good conversation can be had?

Steve

Maybe Maggiano's is one of the safer bets? The others I've been to up there seem too loud or the food/service leaves a lot to be desired.

I've had good meals at Paul Martin's and Toulouse.

In the newer part (Northside), perhaps Toulouse or Paul Martins.

In the original part, Flemings might meet your requirements, but rather expensive.

I've only tried the above during weekdays - the noise level could be much higher on weekends.

toulouse is a solid traditional french restaurant and is the quietist restaurant in the domain. We also like north, but it is loud.

culinary dropout is great, but even louder.

I like Maggiano's they do a nice job, not too expensive.

Had a special dinner out at Flemings. Food was good but not great. One of our appetizers had a giant hair in it, that a friend pulled out of his mouth. Flemings didn't comp us an entree or anything.

Probably would not go back.

Maggiano's. Ate in the outside area. Perfect weather. It was very good.

Then walked north through all of the newer areas of the Domain. Stopped and played ping pong in one of the sports bars.

Wow! I have mixed feelings about it all. Met with some friends to eat at a similar development in Dallas a few weeks ago, and this category of development is all starting to look and feel the same to me, same brands, same vibe.

Interesting, and different from downtown, but something about it disturbs me on a low level that I can't articulate. It's just not really my thing, though the date night was itself fun and enjoyable.

Could it be that pseudo let's-try to-make-it-look-like-a-city-with-sidewalks-but-it's-really-just-a-fabricated make-believe-city-lookalike-in-a-shopping-center-development-feel? Like you're in Scottsdale?

Lots of great food, but it just feels sort of artificial to me. Yet I sense I'm in the minority.
