Good bye SxSWers, thanks for visiting.

Dale Watson On Leaving Austin: 'The City Has Sold Itself' | KUT

“I just really feel the city has sold itself. Just because you’re going to get $45 million for a company to come to town – if it’s not in the best interest of the town, I don’t think they should do it. This city was never about money. It was about quality of life.”

Yep, city council take head, your weird id leaving, your musicians are leaving and your artists.

I do agree that Memphis is an underrated city.

Not saying anything bad, but I didn't want to get out of my car in the area surrounding graceland when I drove through town one day.

I remember barb wires, etc. It was quite an interesting area.

Hey. OP. Got any more articles you can link in random threads?

Austin had been selling itself for 30 years (well, probably more) oddly, it’s only those that don’t adapt that think its “sold out”.

Essentially, don’t hate the player - hate the game.

I lived there for about 5 years climbing the corporate ladder. I met my wife there and found an amazing black lab (whom we named Elvis) and got the hell out.

Worst city I've ever lived in. Horrible inferiority complex. Very racist.

YMMV.

I spent some time in Memphis - terrifying city if you don't know 'the rules'. Racist as hell, violent police, and crime out the wazoo....

I’m curious. What kind of racism did you experience?

As is Louisville, in my opinion, 2 of the last smaller cities that have yet to really blow up, but it will happen.

I come to this forum almost daily, to try to decide if I should move here (Austin), or Louisville, the cost of housing in Austin scares me..

Hate to see Dale Watson leave town. I remember seeing him a few times at the Black Cat Lounge on Thursday nights, 2$ cover back in the 90's.
