I'm a native and it took me decades to get sensitive to cedar. As of this year, I have to add oak to the allergy list. I can't fathom why anyone who already has allergy issues would move here. Mine are relatively mild and treatable, but it's still miserable.

The good news is that Cedar is manageable, and has a very short season. Mold is the worst one.

Allergies are absolutely horrible here. Used to be cedar would be the only thing that bothered me but now oak is really killing me now.

What's it like? Put your head in a vise and tighten it until you have constant pain, rub your eyes with alcohol, and stuff cotton balls up your nose so you can't breathe. Alternate between sitting in a 120 degree sauna and jumping in ice water. That's what it's like for me at least.

I was here for 15 years before it hit me. And when it did, it hit me like a freight train.

I was here about 5 years before allergies hit me hard. I have asthma which got really worse. This year I started using herbs and this has worked better for me than anything else I tried. I would have moved by now but my family loves it here.

We moved here from Irvine 18 months ago, and Cedar hit me really hard this year.

I feel brain fog, head and sinus congestion, and constant fatigue - my memory issues have been worse since having allergies as I've forgotten very basic things - it's nothing short of miserable, and is not to be taken lightly.

I take Zyrtec and Flonase, but plan on seeing an allergist to discuss possible immune therapy (the drops or shots).

Allergies here are no joke, and when relocating, it should be a HUGE consideration before you move here.

What's interesting is, we drove to Fredericksburg which isn't even that far out of town, and I was already feeling relief from the Cedar pollen. As soon as I got back, it hit me like a truck the next day.

I am curious as to how many people gave up and left after suffering from this? I am not giving up yet, but if the drops don't work, then a relocation may be in order.

Our family did. We lasted 4 years and I had read all the allergy posts and was aware (but hadn't experienced it yet) before we moved. It was one of the top reasons we left Austin. I may have written your above post 5 or 6 years ago. Aside from cedar which is awful, the mold and the oak (the rest of the year) was too much. You can search old posts. Best of luck either way.
