I’m thinking about either renting a houseboat to live on or buying one for a year. I’m retired and want to be closer to my grandson in San Marcos. I had rather rent one so I have time to really look for a boat I want. I’m don’t have a clue who to call or how much I could expect to pay yo live monthly on a houseboat. I love Lake life love to fish and currently have a lake home lake cypress. Slang help at all would be appreciated

Best bet is to buy one and find a place to dock it on lake Travis or lakes further out. There isn’t a community of houseboat living that I know of.

Most marina's in this area do not allow live aboards. Be sure to check out what is available before you get locked into a slip rental.

Several allow live-aboards. Sail and Ski marina allows it, although they charge you something like $50 month (or that is what I recall, it has been years since I saw the cost). They have electric and water to the slips and a central dump-station for the waste water. There is also a small bath house on the property that you can shower in. Very small, I think just one shower, but it is there.

Of course, the slip is $3,000 or so per year.....
