Whatever Aaron has figured out for Franklin, it works. A ton of meat is being made and consumed in a short period of time (hours). It was obvious to me the meat was quality, not some 2nd tier meat to save a few bucks. I don't care how good you cook it, but lesser meat will be noticed. Once opened the line flows, those working there are pleasant, and it appears everyone is happy with the food.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Next time out, you’ll have to try some of the other joints mentioned in this thread... although you might have to expand that running route afterwards.

As I stated I wouldn't go back to Franklin until I've tried several of the other places noted. Not sure I'd drive 22 miles to Salt Lick BBQ, but there and LA BBQ are two that come to mind. My 6 mile run might have to expand, that is true.

Salt Lick is ~ok, but it's not in the same Galaxy as the top BBQ places around. If you want to stay in Austin LA BBQ, Micklethwaits, Freedman's, and John Mueller Meat Co. come to mind. If you want to travel slightly then Louie Mueller's in Taylor or Black's in Lockhart are also worthy.

I know that some name them among the elite, but I've been there 3 or 4 times and I'm done trying. I find them extremely overrated and not in the same category as the others at all.

I've always found them quite tasty, and more to the point of this thread, multiple people I know (including a family member - yes, we disagree about 'cue even within the same family) who DO think Franklin's is awesome, say that they are right up there with Franklin's but without the line and try to schedule being in town so they can go there.

Big Cat BBQ in Cedar Park is my personal local favorite. They had something called "Burnt Ends" that they offer every now and then which I could have inhaled by the pound. That's not a Texas style thing to my knowledge, but daaaaaaamn it was good!
