Upscale shopping coming to Austin...
For better or worse, depending on what side of the fence you're on, upscale shopping is coming to Austin.
I had mentioned in an earlier post that Tiffany's had announced plans to open a store here; this article talks about where it's going (near the new Neiman Marcus) and all of the other very high end stores going in at the same general location. Looks to be quite the huge development.

Wow. I mean WOW. I had no idea this was going to be so massive. I didn't even know about the Southpark Meadows developments. And then there's the huge new retail area going in out in Bee Cave.
This city is off the chain. I've never seen anything like it, but then I've never lived in Vegas, Orlando or Phoenix, which are all cities that have experienced similar types of radical growth.
But.... did I say "WOW" yet?
Thanks for posting that info.

I remember years ago they said SA and Austin would grow together by 2007, I thought they were nuts! Well it is almost 2007 and not only has SA and Austin grown together but it starts from Temple to SA. It is really scarry! The very thing that we love about central texas is being killed, we will have plenty of shopping, but WILL WE HAVE WATER????

RIP Austin.
What was once a cool, iconoclastic large town...now just another megalopolis.
Bummer.
Rent Slacker and drink a few Shiners for the ol' gal.

That saddens me to hear you say that. My wife & I hope to move there sometime in the next 6 months. My employer is thinking of relocating me there.
We flew down there in August to see if we could take the heat. I'd been there once before for SXSW (I work in a music-related field), and wanted to see what she thought before entertaining thoughts of relocating. We saw a lot of the growth near Pflugerville & Round Rock that seemed to developing in a typical suburban sprawl kind of way. It wasn't any sort of area we'd be attracted to, but we liked the main part of Austin quite a lot. Oh, and we were fine with the heat. We're used to humidity and we didn't experience much of that.
You're used to people moving there that are tired of the weather: that's nothing new. We're also attracted by the progressive nature of the town - we live in a deep red area. Progressive and Midwest don't go hand in hand unless you can pony up for Chicago, Madison or Minneapolis but who wants 6 months of winter? No, the reason why so many people are coming to town from our area is that the economies in many places in the Midwest are horrible. It's also - still - comparable price wise to our area, AND experiencing job growth.
So, we want to come to Austin and enjoy living there. Don't hate on us.
