I received an email from my student's dorm informing us that many restaurants (including all Starbucks) are either closed or offering a very limited menu due to the boil water notice. The dorm encouraged the students to leave town for the weekend.

This is family weekend at UT. We have a pre-paid hotel room.

What is the real story regarding the local restaurants? Are we going to show up from out of town and have limited dining options?

No coffee or soda at McDonald's, I was bummed about the coffee!

Maybe call the places y'all want to go and ask. It's hit or miss. Some have been okay, others have closed.

A lot were closed on Monday, but as the week went on and they realized it wouldn't be a brief (one or two day) issue, most of the restaurants figured out work-arounds and opened back up. Many seem to be back to near full menus, with various drinks impacted the most.

We haven't had any problems, no Starbucks, that is true city-wide. Many places are not serving fountain drinks or ice in anything but otherwise, places are open!

Salt Lick is boiling metric tons of water each morning to maintain full amount of service.

I was at a restaurant tonight that was serving bottled water ($1) or soft drinks by the can. The ice was fine because it was all brought in in bags.

If they don't want to lose massive revenue, they'll find a way to be open!

Bone Daddy's was open today. Drinks are all in sealed containers...ice on request(presumably safe ice!)

Steiner Ranch Starbucks is open with a full menu since WCID#17 is unaffected.

I was there for early voting and wow I have not seen a Starbucks so busy before - 30 minute wait for a cup of coffee... The barista was overworked.

I was turned away from two restaurants on Monday and one yesterday, but I imagine some of them have found work-arounds. Might be best to call first to check if they are open.
