I had, what I thought were, really really bad allergies in the Seattle area. Everyone told me, moving here, they would get much worse. I have actually had the clearest 6 months that I can remember! In the last couple of days, I have occasionally had to take a claritin - but that's typical spring stuff for me.

I think I have heard that "Cedar Fever" is the most common allergy here - and it appears to occur in the fall.

Someone correct me if I am off...

Allergies are quite varied here, although I am sure Seattle has its share. 'Cedar' fever, oak allergies, mold allergies, and ragweed are the ones that come to mind...I have a poster that shows their seasons somewhere....maybe I will try and find it and scan it in....

Btw, allergies can take years to develop. Usually, it is just a season or two, but can be 7 years or more....

Also, the 'yellow dust' is here, too, and is oak pollen. It is very short lasting, though.

Really. Not real close to Austin; more south. My brother in law is an avid hunter and he has a friend that lives outside Austin and he has wild boar on his property. He gets one every year.

Critter galore huh? Any suggestions on keeping them out of my house? Do people use the Orkin man regularly? Especially the snakes!!

I don't live inside Austin proper, I'm way out east in Hutto, so I'm not sure we have the same sort of Insects. Maybe. Yesterday, I was weeding and I saw a few baby centipedes. We've also seen two snakes on our front porch. I don't think they were poisonous, but they were big and had to be done away with! My sister said there were tarantulas, but I've never seen one. No scorpions out this way, but there are rattlesnakes (haven't seen them yet). We get bats at dusk and early nightfall, and they freak me out when they fly so close to my head (they're actually swooping for bugs, but I don't care..It's time for me to go back inside). The fire ants are the worst for us, and we just buy ortho and sprinkle it on the anthills, and it works really good.
