Default Moving from Germany to Lake Hills... Valley View Elementary etc.

Hi together,

we (my 10 year old daughter and I) are moving from Germany to Austin in 4 weeks.
My daughter will attend "Valley View Elementary"... I wanted my little one to be in the Eanes ISD...
We'll be living close to N.Cuernavaca Road...
How is that area? Are there many children?
Are there grocery stores close by?
It feels funny to move to an area I've never seen before, although I've been in Austin 7 times already...
Oh yes, and are there any public pools in that area besides the $300/year Lake Hills community pool?
Thank you for any help and hints...

Rosa

Good question, but I have no idea...
I don't like too much german food anyway, so I never looked out for a german restaurant...

Sorry :-)

Hello Rosa,

My family lives off 360/2244 and my son attends Forest Trail Elementary which is the school right next to Valley View Elementary. I think you will be very pleased with Valley View.

The area you are moving to is fairly close to the town of Bee Caves and there is an HEB grocery there that will be easy for you to get to. The new HEB near me is now open and would also be an option for you (basically at 360 and 2244). You could also go to the Randall's in Lakeway or even the one in Westlake Hills.

There is also the new Hill Country Galleria which will be an easy commute for you. There are shops and restaurants there. There is also a new library in the Galleria.

Across from the Hill Country Galleria is a Lowes, Marshall's Best Buy, Old Navy, World Market, Pier One, PetSmart (I think it's a PetSmart) Bed, Bath and Beyond (or Linen's and Things-can't remember which!) and some other shops and little restaurants.

The city of Lakeway also has a Target and Home Depot among other stores.

The area is really growing and you have many options.

I would recommend that you pay the $300.00 per year to use the pool you mentioned (if you can afford it). Most kids live at the pool during the summer and I think it would be money well spent.

I am not sure about German Restaurants but many German families settled in the area in the 1800's so you will find outstanding sausage made at many restaurants. The New Braunfels Smokehouse is not far and they have a restaurant that is pretty good. I think it may serve some German dishes. Also check out Fredericksburg. If there is a German restaurant anywhere it will be there!

Good luck and welcome. I think you will like it here.

Terri

Welcome! I live in Lake Hills and it's a nice community, but I totally agree with austinaggie - the $300 is well worth the use of the pool and the park if you have kids. Besides, if you lived in any other neighborhood in Eanes, you'd be paying that or more in mandatory HOA fees anyway. And ditto on the shopping - you have tons of options. Left on Bee Cave and you have the brand new Westlake HEB and the Barton Creek mall just a few minutes down 360. Take a right and you've got all the shops and the new mall in Bee Cave. I think you'll like it!
