Hello! I am a single mom looking to move to Texas from Oregon. Ive been considering the Belton/Temple area becuase of the highly rated public schools. The crime and safety rates look better around this better than in Killeen as well. Belton looks like a beautiful town and the rent and housing doesnt seem too outrageous either. Is it too good to be true? Are there no jobs? Or terrible residents here? What are the downfalls of this area? Or are there any other areas I should be considering? Thanks!!

What kind of work are you looking for? If you're looking for teaching or retail or restaurant positions, you should be fine. If you're looking for something else, like more executive and technical, there's not much there. It's a military town, for the most part. The main jobs will be in Austin.

Ive been working as a Pharmacy Technician the last 5 years, but a job in the school district would be ideal. So i dont have to find child-care after school.

Then you need to research getting a Texas teaching certificate. Many people move here thinking they can get a teaching job easily, but you need to get the certificate. I don't know what it entails, but some people say it's hard, but they could just be too lazy to do it.

Have you been to the area before? What would your budget be? Are you looking for something out and away from things? You’re a ways away from Austin in that area.

I will definitely look into getting a teaching certificate! Thank you! AND I have only been up around the Amarillo area because I have some family that lives there. Planning on coming and checking out central Texas this spring though. I dont want to live in the big city like Austin, just a nice town to raise my daughter. Any other suggestions?

They weren't being very friendly and welcoming.

Temple isn't a bad place, but get a good gauge of the neighborhood you're thinking of moving into. It does have some sketchy areas. As do most towns.
