Can you be more specific and give an address or the name of the complex? Lots of difference between Riverside and E. Riverside.

There are lots of students in that area, and the UT shuttle runs all over that area, which is real convenient if you are a student.

Okay, in your other post you mentioned Austin View Apartments, Lake View Apartments, and Timber Creek Apartments. I Googled all three to see where they are located and to see the reviews people have submitted on each. The only one that had ANY positive ratings was Timber Creek. The others sound horrible. Also, Timber Creek has the best location of the three. But you say you're looking for a kid friendly place and none of these fit the bill.
Why are you choosing these locations? Will you be working close by? If you give us more information maybe we can recommend some other areas. Also, what is your budget?

If your not a student then go some were else. If your looking to be downtown you might need to bight the bullet and look for something further out. Sounds like you have a family. That's is a good reason not to live on riverside.

I still don't understand why you are looking at apartments in downtown. Obviously, the price range you are looking at is finding you some really awful apartment complexes, so why not look somewhere other than downtown?
I understand that you will only have one car so maybe you're looking for a place where the stay-at-home parent can walk to stores, etc. during the day? Am I close?
Where will the person who works outside the home be working?

I think you can find something downtown and not on riverside. If your moving in the winter you are going to have better luck but in spring summer then your chances are going to be very limited. You need to get in touch with a apartment finder.

I would not recommend East Riverside. I've lived over there, and when I taught school many of my students came from those neighborhoods. If you're a student, and you've taken a self-defense class, and you're male, fine. Otherwise, pick another neighborhood. There are lots of areas with grocery stores within walking that are safer.

You might want to try Runnymede apartments in north Austin. I have not lived there since 2001, but we absalutley loved it and we had four small (at that time) children. We had a nice park with swings a few blocks away, I could walk to about three different shopping centers, walk to grocery doctors ect. When we were there the rent included all utilities. There was even a library on the next road about two blocks up that we enjoyed walking to. We could also walk to the doctor on Parkfield. Church too. I better stop now 'cause I am currently in Florida and not liking it and planning for the day when we can make our triumphant return to Austin. I might start to cry!
