Hell, they go all sorts of grief for selling land that is of low tax value so a soccer team could build their own stadium.
Yep, me neither. I never could understand the stupidity of such funding. How exactly will the tax payers get to see their principal (let alone profits) from their investments in such ventures?

Theoretically, you get it back in visitor dollars and employment, which is to some degree accurate. Problem is, we have almost completely booked hotels, prices that are too high already, and an under-developed transportation system. The benefits will never offset the negatives, quality of life or in dollars.

Amen, and well said!

All I’m trying to say is that Austin has a major league soccer team coming called Austin FC but you guys think a pro soccer team is all they need in terms of pro sports since their is the Texas Longhorns college sports dominating the city.

Yes, yes, we do. Where do you live, by the way? I notice that you post the same kinds of questions in cities all over the country for some reason.

I love sports, but I don't think Austin will ever become a professional sports town. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that a lot pf people who live here aren't from here. So they hold on the their alliance to their hometown teams. Most people I know who are true fanatics have been so since birth - their parents were fans, grandparents, etc.

I also think UT has a lot to do with it. That's sort of Austin's hometown team. I know a lot of people who have never taken a single class at UT, but they are huge UT fans. If those people were to move from Austin, chances are they are going to stay UT fans. It's not like they are suddenly going to cheer for Ohio State. Same with people who move here from elsewhere.

Correct. And lots of people couldn't care less about the 'horns, at that.....

There is no NEED for any pro sport's team.

But think of all the "jobs" it will create

What percentage of Austinites are native to Austin? I think this will influence heavily if a sports team is viable or not.

Poo on the overpaid, overhyped pro primadonnas. And poo on their greedy billionaire owners with their corporate welfare.

I hope not. I can't believe how much Las Vegas coughed up for that stadium, just to please the Davis family.

I guess that means Austin's safe for a while from "scouts" trying to see if we'll cough up money.

NOPE. I will NEVER VOTE for a stadium, well unless it's an Olympic stadium. I wouldn't mind the Olympics in Austin, I'll make an exception for that.

I love my Saints but NFL is a boondoggle. I hope Austin never gets NFL, NBA, or MLB.
