Would you say with all the cold weather and rain we have been getting lately that it spring seems to have come a bit late this year?

This is not usual but it's not unusual. A few years ago it was in the 40's in May and I had to turn the heat on. At least I haven't had to do that. It's 57 at 1:25 on May 11.

So don't believe the people that say Austin is a furnace from May to October. They are lying. Even a yankee would not call the weather we are getting today "warm". This pattern doesn't look to break anytime soon either.

If it's any consolation, Denver had snow the other day as well as parts of MN. I'd much rather 50's and 60's with rain over that.

This may be one of those delayed summers where it doesn't get hot until July. Usually those summers last longer, like into October. I remember a summer with highs in the 80's in July but highs in the mid 90's in October. You just never know.

My first 20 years in Austin the weather was pretty consistent, the last 10 have been more unpredictable. I can remember many sweltering hot field days and graduations, and where by the middle of May we had already been to Sclitterbahn more than 3 times!

It will be 80 tomorrow and we have already had several days with temps over 90. Don't worry, summer is coming! (Unless it is a repeat of 2007 which was the craziest "year without a summer" ever!)

2007 featured a summer with highs in the 80's followed by a fall that was hotter than summer with highs of 107 in September and mid 90's in October.

The heat will come, you just don't know when...

Last year was 89 high, 68 low.

The average for this date is 83 high, 63 low.

Anecdotes are cute, reality is more accurate.

Yeah, not sure we need another 2007 ! Even though I play INdoor Pickleball, I don't care for driving through torrential downpours to get to the gym The mushrooms are loving it!!

83 is quite nice, hardly "extremely hot summer weather from May to October" that a lot of people tell others.

Today was 64 and overcast, that's cool and kind of like San Francisco style weather.

No, the rain is actually a little early. This graph is from the Austin City-Data page.

Didn’t last long, did it?
