All that’s left is the control tower.

It was nice to have it so accessible, but as they have finished the freeway conversion of 71 and built hwy 130, the new location is working out pretty well.

And I really do like the new airport - I flew out of Mueller many a time, and I think almost always to Houston or Dallas to make a connection to my real destination. It sure is nice to be able to fly to so many places direct now....

I flew out of the old airport and into the new one the week it opened.

I think something similar happened to my (not yet) wife - she flew out of the old and back to the new. She has to make sure she had a ride and did not drive and park.

The old airport was so tiny! I could park in the surface lot, walk in and head to the farthest gate and it wouldn't even take 10 minutes. I was there a lot as my spouse was in California at company headquarters at least one week a month.

I love the new airport, one of the best in the US and still fairly easy to get in and out of -- picking someone up at DFW once almost made it cry, it was so nonsensical!

I came in to Mueller in 1968 for the first time here, and the first time flying. Flights were very expensive back then, and everyone dressed up.

This is an article about the pronunciation of Mueller, but it contains a video tour of the airport with well-known broadcaster Cactus Pryor. It’s long, so it takes some patience, but there are interesting takeaways throughout. Finally get to see the Mueller airport restaurant again. Such a mid century place.

Why is Cactus holding a wrapped fish? And Braniff, Continental, and Trans Texas airlines

I have to be honest and say that I don't remember the old terminal itself very well. I do remember the planes landing over I35 and all the talk of the airport moving to Manor.

I know nothing about microphones, nor how they protected against wind noise back then. I guess the cloth worked, though.

Don't forget the hangar. Pretty cool.
There is also one other building that I didn't know about...

When I first flew into Mueller Airport in January, 1959, this is what the main terminal building looked like (it had been doubled in size since it was first built in the 1930s). It was replaced by the modern terminal in 1961 - with the iconic flared control tower.
