Default Childcare near Barton Creek/Westlake

Hello, my family will be relocating to Austin in June and I need to find childcare for my son, who will be 1 then. We'll be living in Barton Creek and I'll be commuting to downtown (my husband's job is still TBD). My son is in daycare now, and we're quite happy with it. I'd probably prefer to keep him in the school-type setting.

Can anybody offer any recommendations or input on daycare centers that would be convenient to this area?

I'm a bit concerned about long waiting lists. Other than putting our names on waitlists asap, any other advice on this? What do people do if there are no openings when they need childcare? Hire nannies? Any recommendations on this front as well?

Any and all advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Alicia

I'd get your kid on lists ASAP for next year - there's not much else to do unless you can make some sort of large donation to a church school and hope that they magically find a spot for you . Most schools have already had their registrations for next year. If you need to go the nanny route, you might try hirealonghorn.com and get someone from UT.

Try Childcare in Austin, Texas: Weslake Childcare. They're on Bee Caves a few miles west of Mopac so they're probably on your commute path. My son (currently 6 mo's) has been going there for three months and he seems to really enjoy his time there. Among other things, they're one of few places that is willing to use our cloth diapers, and they also have a caregiver who helps teach sign language.

Another option is the Eanes school district daycare. I haven't researched it much, but it is highly recommended by a couple of my co-workers. I think they are located at several of the Eanes elementary schools including Valley View near 360 and Bee Caves.

Edit: after googling around a bit, I found a webpage for the Eanes school district childcare program. Unfortunately it looks like they're discontinuing their infant/toddler program this summer. Community Education - CDC/ELT
