Hi, there, this forum was so helpful to me when I moved here 10 years ago, I spent countless hours scouring it!

I remember when I first moved here there was a TGI Friday's restaurant in the Radisson Hotel near the Ann Richards Bridge. Neither exists now, but I do see it is a restaurant now. Anyone know what it's called or can recommend it? Or do you know of any other restaurants from which we may be able to catch the bats? I know there's never a guarantee, but it's always fun to try to catch them!

Thanks!

The BEST way to see the bats is from the water! That way you are looking up to a lighter sky and can see the dark shapes of the bats (and you can hear them). Looking out from a restaurant or down from the bridge makes them difficult to see.

If you are up for it, rent a kayak and watch the bats from the south bank (opposite of downtown). You are guaranteed to see them! Next best would be to go on one of the "bat cruises," I'm partial to Lone Star but there is Capitol Cruise as well. Eat at the Hyatt and then go.

The tours are totally my scene, but I have family coming in from out of town ranging in age from 13-70, and they are not accustomed to the Texas heat. Are there any A/C tours with drinks or small meals for people? That would be ideal! I've rented kayaks and water bikes and have stood at the Congress Bridge, and I always find it so magical! I'm just not sure it will appeal to my older, less active relatives...but I am so open to suggestions!

I know Lone Star only takes the smaller, one level boats out for bat-watching. Maybe look at Capital Cruises, they might use the bigger boats.

You could try eating in the Hyatt and then just walking out at dusk to see them. Should be a bit cooler. Those who stand for an hour plus before sunset to see them are nuts!

Little known secret - there is another bat colony in the area - under the I-35 bridge by the railroad tracks in Round Roc just south of 620. It is about half the size of the on one Austin, but can still be an impressive sight.
The Rooftop Bar at Urban in downtown RR is a good place to have a pricey Happy Hour drink & watch the bats in season. You can find their website with pictures online.

Try to avoid getting very much underneath the bats, or you will be hit with a mist of bat pee and feces. That kinda spoiled our bat watching experience.

Hi, I think it is called the P6. I went to Google maps and zoomed in to get the restaurant/bar names in the building on that corner. I used to work there briefly.
