This explains a lot. My daughter is a sophomore in high school and just turned 15 in September. We just moved down from Canada and were very surprised to find out that most of the other kids in her grade are almost a year older than her.

Funny, a lot of kids with summer birthdays are held back here in Pennsylvania also but it's more for academic reasons and maturity. Many parents would rather have their child be a year older when heading off to college. I'd never considered the athletic angle before. Maybe I can get some Texas tutoring once we move so I can fit in better!

I thought that was common in most places for sports. Texas-football, Indiana-basketball, California-Volleyball?

Ever thought a kid that is ready for school being held back will hurt them? School will not challenge them and they may act out? We should be focusing on academic abilities. What, do people expect these kids to grow up an play pro- ball?

I was one of the younger kids growing up and I loved being able to finish undergrad, get my feet wet in a career, go back to school for a JD and still be in my mid 20s.
