Default Dripping Springs Utilities

Hi, I'm new here, but am finding a wealth of knowledge with this board. My husband and I are planning on relocating to Austin, particularly Dripping Springs, from South Bend, Indiana. We have found a home in Dripping Springs, on Mason Dixon Circle. I was warned from someone who once lived in Texas about the utility problems in Dripping Springs, and high property taxes. We have 3 elementary aged children, and are really impressed with all we have read about the school system. I would like to live in Belterra, but my husband wants a little land, and to have some space between neighbors. Any info, and insight into these issues would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

We live in Dripping. I'm not sure where your street is, so I can't tell you about the property taxes, but Belterra and a few other communities have higher property taxes than other areas of Dripping. On a $260K house in Belterra, you'll pay about $8K in property taxes. The utilities are also higher, in Belterra anyway, than in Austin. Electric in the summer on a 3,000 sq ft house will be about $300, but that's only electric, not water and trash, as it would be in Austin. It's not as cheap to live in the country as some folks think it is!

Come quick if you're comin' cause people have discovered this community, and the home prices are goin' up in a hurry.

If you have any other questions, let me know. I might be able to answer them.
