Default Moving to Austin, need advice please!!

My husband and I are moving to Austin in the next few months. We live in South Florida now. We visited Austin and fell in love with it. We will probably rent for six months first, then buy. For work, my husband is in sales for a major food wholesale distributor to restaurants and institutional sales. I am president of a millwork and cabinet company.

First, any ideas on the job market there for either of us?

Second, where would be the best place to narrow down a decent rental community? There seems to be so, so many. I don't know where to start.

Third, where to buy???? We loved the hill country. Point Venture is beautiful, but so far out. Loved Lakeway and that area. We have grown kids, none under 18. So schools aren't critical except for resale consideration. We would be open to a townhouse if it was a good deal in a pretty area. We would like to stay around $250,000 if possible, but can be flexible on that. We would love a view of some kind.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think your idea of renting for 6 months before you buy is a good one. That way, you can really get the lay of the land before you make such an important investment. I suggest contacting an apartment locator and/or a Realtor who handles leases. Moderator cut: advertising
