I do too, TW... i like Dale Watson on mondays at CC, and the stuff Antones gets in the alt country, Joe Ely-Steve Earle vein.....I like the twangy "Brother where art thou" stuff too, but maybe I've just watched deliverance too many times....Still never heard anyone play bluegrass like the retarded kid on deliverance yet, but I wait in anticipation. Just the beginning strums of "Dueling Banjos" turns me into a dog in heat. Keep in mind I don't get out much!
BANJO BOY
FYI, when you go on a week-end canoe trip, bring lots of friends, preferably with bows and arrows.

  LOL!!
I LOVE Dale! Him and I are friends. I met him the first time I came to Austin! Just talked to him yesterday on e-mail. He is a fabulous entertainer. When he returns to Austin after his tour, ask him to show you his Terrible Towel! (compliments of me)
Ooohhh...the dueling banjos...I'm getting scared already! "I'm gonna make you squeal like a pig"....oohhh, that movie scares the living daylights out of me.

Definitely Ned Beatty's finest moment in cinema.....I still can't believe they actually filmed that....where did they get the two hillbillies? central casting? Did they audition for that part? I'd hate to see the tapes of that......and was Ned Beatty that hard up for the role? Did he read the script? What did it say? "Now you strip to your undies, and get sodomized after you squeel on your knees..." Did ole Ned read the script on that one? Was his agent asleep at the switch? Did he enjoy the role? Is it something you play for family at get togethers(Now this was a little role daddy did in '72. He was really hard up for a role and was willing to do damn near anything!)

Yeah, I always wondered what was going through his head when he read that script. There is no way I could have played that part. I get goosebumps when I hear those dueling banjos!

Well anyways...
What about the indie music scene? We've been told that Austin is the place to find cool new indie bands. Also, is it pedestrian-friendly?

Great segway into next topic! LOL! Thanks for helping us transition out of Delieverance! Yes, it is the best place in the USA for that....it is true..you heard correctly......but no, not terribly ped friendly....south congress resembles FR0*GGER the video game when crossing, and people don't brake that great for joggers and pedestrians. I was close to being run down a few times jogging, and always wondered if they would have hit me if I didn't run out of the way.....few bike lanes, practically none......they will tell you about the hike and bike, but that doesn't absolve them of building bike lanes as well, of which they essentially have none....Its as car orientated as LA. And the huge new north and northwest areas don't even have parks to jog in. I'm not being melodramatic....this is simply
the case......

Dear herosmum, South Congress could definitely be described as funky and artsy. I would just warn you away from East Austin.
