Default Relocating from Hawaii

Hi everyone. Well let's see how this works out for me as it is my first time starting a thread. My fiance and I along with my 14 yr old step son and 9 month old daughter are wanting to relocate from Hawaii. The price of living in paradise is EXTREMELY high. I've been looking online at different areas to live, but can seem to find anything that catches my eye. My fiance is Samoan/Filipino and I am mixed Hawaiian/Caucasian. We're looking to rent needed something near a high school would also like something that is near grocery stores and a bus route if any. If anyone has any suggestions for us it would be GREATLY appreciated. This will be our first big move.

Assuming you are looking for somewhat affordable near a good HS:
Try the Slaughter/Mopac/Davis/Brodie area and try to get something that feeds into Bowie HS. There are bus routes in the area and there are a couple of HEBs (local grocery store) in the area - Brodie/Wm Cannon and Slaughter/Escarpment.

I don't know enough about the Round Rock/Pflugerville area, but I am sure there are some affordable options up there that feed into RR/Westwood/McNeil HS or Pflugerville HS.

Funny how paradise is always in the eye of the beholder....I always had a dream of moving to Hawaii one day. A native's dream might be to live somewhere affordable, so he can buy a free-standing house to live in, in the continental 48. All depends on what side of the fence you sit on.

We do have a city bus system in Austin though it is not heavily used. You will probably end up with one car per driver (including your children when they turn 16). Only a few neighborhoods are lacking convenient grocery stores.

Austin neighborhoods and suburbs each have their own vibes. There are also notable differences in quality of schools and crime rates. I'm guessing that you might be looking for a laid-back vibe, a la Hawaii. You might check out the Bouldin Creek and Travis Heights neighborhoods. San Marcos is also pleasantly laid-back, IMO.
