Default Home owners Insurance

I know that property taxes are high in Austin but what about Home Owners Insurance? I have read on this board that Insurance tends to be high but I can't find anyone posting actual numbers. Anyone care to give me some general numbers as to what to expect?
Here in NJ, we are used to high property tax but my Insurance is under $1000 for a $400000 house. What can I expect to pay in Austin for a $300K-$350K house for Home owners insurance? Thanks.

As of Dec. 2007, Texas had the highest insurance premiums in the US. I can't find any current data on this. I would imagine we still hold this wonderful title.

I think it is regional, though, with higher premiums down at the coast. We are paying right around 0.4% the value of the house.

It can vary quite a bit, but I'd say for a $400K house it will be in the range of $700-$1300 per year. Factors include zip code, construction of house, value/age of the construction, previous water damage claims on the property, roof type, etc. In central Austin, a $400K house could be a $100K structure on a $300K lot, which may make the homeowners insurance on the low end. In other areas, it could be a $300K structure on a $100K lot, that would cost more on the high end insurance wise...

Anyway, it's very easy to call an insurance company and give them the address to get a ballpark quote.

I had been told to expect my insurance to double moving from NoVa to Austin.
It ended up increasing about $100 to $884 for a 600k house.
