Tornado warnings
When I was growing up in Michigan we had a big air raid siren that would go off every time there was a tornado warning. I assumed that was what every town does, since not everyone watches TV or listens to the radio. But now I'm wondering . . . .

Well... that's just great! But I guess it makes sense for Austin: No basements to hide in anyway = no reason to warn people of the tornado to begin with. :-)

We just don't really get them in Austin itself.

No sirens here. No basements here. Most people watch the news which before and during incoming storms, the weathercasters are on constantly with radar images warning each community to take cover. The TV coverage is very very good regarding storm warnings.

I grew up in East Texas, and they have sirens there. In fact, my mom told me they went off on Monday because of a tornado warning. I suppose it just depends on what part of the state you're in.

Where do you go during a tornado with no basements?

Interior closet...the bathtub is a good place...
but once again...I think people are making a big deal out of nothing...I've lived in Texas for 38 of my 39 years, and I've been through one tornado, in a suburb of Dallas...the one year I wasn't in Texas (I was living in Jackson, MS) we had one that missed us by a couple of streets...
