Well, our trip home might be interesting! I would like to bail today and head up to Jackson to spend the night and finish tomorrow to avoid the storm rains and potential evacuation traffic tomorrow on the I-10 route...but I'm afraid I'm going to be outvoted.
Wish us luck. We'll beat the real weather; but I'm not looking forward to the traffic
I'll try to bring a little rain with me for Austin.

I'd be BAILING, the path is set to hammer Louisiana. I would 'not' ... repeat... 'not' take I-10 during a Hurricane event.

I remember awhile back I was coming home from Bowling Green and got the word of a Hurricane making landfall. I had to haul to Atlanta, drop off a family member, then haul through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas to avoid the worst of it. I was really bookin it too. I was on the very outskirts of it between Birmingham and Memphis and I went the northern route via I-22 / 78 because it was already over I-10 and I-20. Managed to evade it though.

I was too tired to post!!! Thanks for checking in!

We left Sat at 0500 and headed toward Jackson, MS. REALLY glad I did as the conditions along I-10 and I-12 got nasty in a hurry!!! Even with that early start, we would have been in a sea of evacuees trying the same thing. Texas roads are dark; but Alabama roads in the rain and dark are no fun! Glad to see the sun come up around 0600.

850 miles and almost 13 hours later, I backed "Snowball" into the garage. I'm too old for this stuff!!!
The weather wasn't perfect, even a couple hundred miles north of the Gulf...plenty of storms in Shreveport and toward Dallas. We took 31 again on the way back(actually went THROUGH Tyler), since the traffic maps showed plenty of red closer to Dallas.

By the bye, we stopped in Laurel, MS for lunch on the way down on Monday. Lunch at Pearl's Diner. Good ole Southern cookin'.

As an update, the condo we stayed in near Ft. Morgan(Gulf Shores) is right on the Gulf. They are STILL rebuilding the four-tower complex that was ravaged by Sally one year ago! "Our" condo is on the 20th floor and the interior had to be completely redone!! 20 floors UP!!!
Selling price is $900K if anyone is looking

I hope by some miracle that there is less damage than the statistics would suggest

Glad to hear you’re okay.

Yea I don’t mess with I-10 during Hurricanes. I-20 can get very rough too. I usually just avoid Louisiana altogether if I have to travel during a Hurricane, and yes they transition from calm to chaotic very quickly.
