Another MUD Question
I was just looking over the web site for the Fern Bluff (Stone Canyon) MUD and under the FAQ I found this:
How much is it for Trash Pickup? Garbage (per connection) --$7.50 /month
(District pays additional $7.00 / month)
Trash Pickup days are Monday
You have to pay for trash pick up? Huh? Where I am now it is just a city service covered in you property taxes. Why am I thinking this MUD thing could get very expensive very quickly?

In the city of Austin, you pay for it too. Depending on the size of your trash can, it can be up to $17.25 per month : City of Austin - Garbage Rates ...
If you are in a MUD, you pay for it separately, but often it is cheaper (The trash anyway. Water can be more expensive in a MUD.)

I've only lived in 4 places, all in Wisconsin, but I've never had to pay extra for trash pickup it has always been included in the city property taxes. Same with snow plowing, street sweeping, yard waste pick up, etc. I guess I didn't know how good I have it.

Street sweeping is 'included' somewhere in your taxes, not sure what budget it comes out of, and the Austin garbage fee includes (directly or indirectly) garbage pick-up, yard waste, large item pick-up, recycling pick-up, and hazardous waste disposal (once or twice a year at the curb, all year drop-off at the waste center).
In the city, you can chose your bin size, and then pay $1 or 2 for additional bags.

That's one thing I don't miss. In Hays county, at least where we live, we can line up as many trash bags, boxes and they take them all It usually never gets more then one green trashcan for our household, but it's nice to know there is no problem if we have more.

You can put out as many bags as you like (it is not really a problem), but you will have to pay a little extra for them. Truthfully, on the few occasions that we have put out an extra bag or two, we have never been charged. I do like the concept of 'pay for what you need', since you can get a small bin (which may cover 90% of the time) and then pay the extra dollar or two when you need it.
