Default Best Public Beach?

We are coming to Austin from SA & want to make swimming part of our day. Where is the best sandy beach with public access? We have small children & were thinking of may be a park on Lake Travis...

Volente beach seems to be the only one that's sandy. Most of the shoreline at Travis is rocky. Lake Buchanan has some sandy shore and an island towards the middle of the main body that has sandy beach.

When the lake level drops, more beaches are exposed. Bob Wentz park (@ windy point) has a beach when the lake is below around 660 or so.

Default Go to Paleface

I'd head over to Paleface Park. It's great for grilling and the swimming isn't too bad.

Bob Wentz park is probably your best bet. Lake Travis is at 647, normal is at 668.

Volente beach trucked their sand in. I imagine its only up at the normally higher water level. The lake level is still 21' below normal so most of the exposed shoreline is probably rocky. It still can be fun for a day of swimming.

When the water levels are low there are some sandy areas on Arkansas Bend and bend West of Point Venture, both bends have public parks, but to get there by driving you have to go all the way around to the North side of the lake.
