What a nasty image a silver foot conjures. Now bronze shoes maybe, but silver feet? Don't think so!

Nope, the image you posted is below. The important thing for readers of this thread (who are not familiar with your typical buffoonery) is this:

While trying to make your point (for the 100th time, BTW) of how Austin isn't as great as it was in the 80s, you used as your supporting evidence and image from the EXACT "top 10" lists you so claim are so misleading.

It's from Best Places to Live and Play '07 - National Geographic Adventure Magazine

Travel to Austin, Texas - National Geographic Adventure Magazine

BTW, your "list of lists" is also outdated, otherwise you might have seen that you were inadvertently using top-10 list content to back up your points... Here is a more recent list that includes ones past 2006 for your future troll posts:

http://www.austinconventioncenter.co...kings_2008.pdf

Finally, a few items of advice:

1 - Change your handle again, it provides at least SOME fun for forumers to try to see how quickly they can guess it's you again!

2 - Google image search is great, but there is such thing as too much of a good thing

3 - Seek therapy. We're really worried about you.

Is it really? It looks remarkably like Hamilton's Pool in that first photo. Well, I guess you got me with that one.

By the way, people used to jump from the cliff into Hamilton's Pool all the time. That was before there was a Rule Against It after somebody died. (We also used to have our kids in the car without car seats and we didn't have seat belts, either. Did a lot of other things that Just Aren't Done Due To Being Unsafe, too. It's a wonder there's still any people on the planet, the way we carried on!)

Trying to remember if I ever saw anyone with a canoe there (this was before it became an Official Park - I can remember when Hippy Hollow wasn't paved over, too, and you had to know someone to know where it was - how the mighty have fallen!).

Getting upset about the top 10 lists is silly. A waste of time. And anyone who puts any credence in them is foolish.

What is the meaning of a list of the top ten most popular colors? If I told you that brown was the best color, you'd probably disagree with me.

The recent list of Texas's Best Barbecue spots is another point. Mueller's is always in the top.... My husband doesn't like it at all. The list doesn't hold true for him. He doesn't go there. He doesn't dwell on the list.

And as for ranting against sprawling cities, it's true, American cities are still not planned on a European model or a smart-growth model, no matter how our mayors and planning professors spin it.... I don't know when we'll all "get it," but our cities can't keep growing as they do, spilling into suburbs. It's not viable.

But I think the OP should be ranting in favor of population growth. Why not adamantly suggest that everyone stop spawning. No more children. Ever! Or a limit, like in China. That way, our cities can stop growing and changing like they do. There won't be any more people to differ with you.... Austin can stay a frozen museum of laid-back charm and hipness, just like you like it....

I enjoy scongress1234...he speaks for lots of folks who've been here a long time and miss what used to be. I think you'll find other 'scongress1234s' on many other city data boards whose cities have changed. Is s/he negative? Maybe...but where is it written that everyone should be smiles and sunshine?

I see nothing special here, and 87% of Austin looks the same. The other 13% is in a very small central part of the city. In other words, the VAST majority of Austinites do not live in "cool" neighborhoods, the kind people who read top ten lists in Pittsburgh wax about, imagining how incredible their soon to be residency will be. Again, they live the same as people in other cities, full of big box stores and strip malls. Austin is simply just another city, albeit a fast growing one. Keep in mind that it almost invariably sucks to live in a fast growing city, as the roads never catch up, which leads to nasty road rage.
Talk to anyone from Vegas, Phoenix, or even LA, for that matter!

Growth is only good for developers and real estate agents. Everyone else suffers and as to bear with antiquated road infrastructure and road rage.

Again, reality never lives up to top ten list hype!

As a former Austin resident who is trying to decide if to move back there or a small Southern Californian town..you sure brought me back to earth.

Like they say...it's all good on paper

The street in question is named Parmer. Not Palmer.

It's Parmer.
scong has a point. The 'cool' Austin is expensive. Probably less expensive than a similar amount of coolness in LA/NY/DC, but still pretty darn expensive.
