It's too expensive, too congested, and the winters are horrible. I'm planning to move to Austin. I could come up with a bunch of reasons not to make the move, but if I settle here or move some place else, I'll always be wondering if I would've been happier in Austin. Moving to a new city is never easy. It gets harder with age and especially if you have family to move. I'm lucky in that I'm single without kids so moving isn't as painful as it is for a lot of people. I don't regret moving to Chicago because if I hadn't moved here, I would never have realized why it was the wrong place for me and I'd always feel like I missed out. And moving here taught me about what I really want, what things I can live without, and what things are must-haves.

Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself to go.....my best advice is to stick it out in Austin.....give it your best, and make it a permanent move......you will feel lousy if you end up pulling stakes like you are doing in Chicago......just make it a good, long 3-7 year stay, and have mindset like this will be the last and big move for you.........more important is the devotion and effort you spend making something happen in metros, rather than trying to find the perfect one and expecting magic....

Default outdoors stuff

http://hillcountryoutdoors.com

I am moving to Austin in Sept. from Kingsport, TN. I've been to Austin several times, originally being from Houston. There are plenty of out doors things to do. I found this social club that I think I might join, cuz being a single woman, getting outdoors can be difficult and scary to do alone. So i thought i'd forward it to you! Good luck!

This is an awesome web site! I can't wait to join this once I move down. I love being outdoors and this is a GREAT way to meet people. I, too, am a single woman and am looking forward to joining this club. Thanks for posting!

I think so... I'll be coming down there on Friday for a week to apartment hunt and check things out again. I have a couple of people that can hopefully show me around and stear me towards "my crowd" and the things I would do. I'll know for sure one way or another in a couple of weeks. I do have to be out of my apartment in NY the end of August so I have to go somewhere!!!

Hi there,
I haven't moved yet but will be doing so the middle of September. I found a great apartment in the northwest hills area and can't wait to get there!!!!

The last time I visited I really enjoyed myself and found myself easily surrounded by people my own age. I went out once downtown and had a good time but what really snagged me was my saturday morning kyacking on town lake followed by lunch at whole foods. It was so great! Also the people in Austin are SO nice... coming from NY it was almost weird... I didn't know what to do with it at first but got used to it quick! It was so refreshing... I went down knowing no one and now I have about 5 different people I can call as soon as I arrive. Everyone really is so nice. I can't wait to get there!!!! :-) I hope this helped... feel free to direct message me if you'd like more info. Good Luck! :-)

Default Finally Here!!!

Well I did it! I moved to Austin about a month ago!!! What a drive that was!!! Phew... actually it was so much fun... my Mom wanted to do the road trip with me so we took our time and stopped in Nashville (and just had to buy cowboy boots!!!) and Memphis... yep we stayed in the Heartbreak Hotel! We're HUGE Elvis fans so that was AWWWWESOME!!! :-) We had a little trouble w/ Hurricane Ike but he couldn't hold back us Yankees for too long!

Anyway, I'm still settlling in and trying to get my life in order but so far so good! Everyone I've met so far has been SOOO nice to me... it is so great! I haven't really had a chance to explore and join clubs and things yet because most of my time is spent working, shopping and setting up my apartment. I'll get there soon enough though.

Well so far everything is going great and I'm so happy I made the decision to move here. I wanted to thank you guys (oops I mean "ya'll") for helping me out and giving me the wealth of info I needed to help make my decision. Now I'm sure you'll hear back from me on what restaurants to go to and where I can find the greatest most reasonably priced sushi in Austin for this sushi lover Thanks again!
